Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in fish from two coastal lagoons of the central Mexican Pacific

چکیده
Mexico has a great variety of aquatic ecosystems; however, most them present significant contamination levels. Despite the efforts to monitor toxic and bioaccumulative persistent pollutants, they are still insufficient outdated data from Mexican coasts, especially in polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), due number bodies that have received little or no attention. In this regard, Pacific's coastal zones their ecosystems monitoring PCBs PAHs biota is critical because it allows us estimate potential risk human health. This work aimed determine total concentration (ΣPCBs) (ΣPAHs) muscle fish collected two lagoons central Pacific non-carcinogenic ratio (HQ) based on monthly per capita consumption national associated with fishing communities Mexico. It was found for considerably higher correlates rate consumption, highlighting vulnerability these contaminants.

Persistent Organic Pollutants ("POPs")
Strictly speaking, all toxins entering the environment can be regarded as environmental poisons. Certain pollutants can, acting over long periods, harm living organisms even in low concentrations. This means that pollutants that are stable and thus persistent have a great ability to act as environmental poisons. Their stability means not only that their effects are long-lasting, but also that t...

This article reviews the results of comprehensive investigations conducted in our laboratory, Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES), Ehime University over the past three decades on the distribution, sources, temporal trends and toxic impacts of the bioaccumulative persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Asia-Pacific region with a particular emphasis on the developing countries. Recent research has again raised the issue regarding the potential health effects of long term exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the context of a risk-benefit analysis. There remains clear evidence of the beneficial effects of fish consumption on public health and in particular fatty fish with its essential fatty acids. In addition to providing fatty acids, fish fat constitute...

The ratification of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants is a departure point for several considerations on their presence in environmental matrices. In this paper, the Italian situation is presented with emphasis on the most toxic compounds--chemicals with dioxin-like toxic action, and the activity in the area of interest of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Biotic, as wel...

The environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are fascinating areas of scientific research. Our objective in this paper is to provide a brief, focussed overview of what constitutes a POP, highlight the harmful effects they may have on biota, make some comments on their environmental sources and analysis, their environmental trends and processes, their mov...
